Did you know that cleaning these tools can make the difference between a good hair day and a bad hair day? Hair in your Hairbrush or comb, a dirty Hair Straightener, or a dirty Hair Dryer can all affect your hairstyle. Dirty hair tools not only cause a bad hair day but also deteriorate the health of your hair.
The products you apply to your hair and your natural oils cause dust and germs to accumulate on your tool. This means the same bad bacteria are reintroduced to your hair every day.
CAUTION! Do not clean your tools when they are still hot or plugged into an outlet.
Hair Dryer
When you blow-dry your hair, hair, and dust get trapped in your dryer. This can cause a burning smell to come from your dryer. The clogged filter prevents air from passing through, causing the dryer to overheat. Clean the filter regularly with a damp cloth, a brush, or tweezers.
It's also important to clean the accessories of your hair dryer. Since these accessories come into direct contact with your hair, many products accumulate on them. As you can remove the accessories from your hair dryer, you can wash them under (lukewarm) water. Do not forget to dry the accessories before placing them back in your dryer.
Straighteners and Curling Irons
After regular use, your straightener or curling iron may have a brownish residue on the plates or barrel. These are the remnants of products and oils from your hair. Try cleaning this with a damp and warm towel. If there are still stubborn residues on your straightener, you can try removing them with disinfectant alcohol on a cloth or cotton swab. To prevent buildup, wipe the plates or barrel with paper towels after each use.
Brushes
Your brush is probably the most used tool and thus the favorite gathering place for all kinds of dirt. The first step is to pull all the hairs out of your brush. You can do this by hand or with the help of a pen or pencil by sliding the pointed end under the hair structure and pulling it up. Use shampoo and a toothbrush to scrub between the bristles to clean the rest of the brush. Rinse the brush and lay it face down to dry.
We recommend cleaning your tools daily. For example, try pulling the hair out of your brush every day and washing it every week. This way, you get the most out of your tools and keep your hair healthy and beautiful.
